Mera Peak (6476m/21,247ft) is Nepal’s highest permitted trekking peak, located in Makalu Barun National Park, Mera Peak rises to the south of Everest and dominates the cut- between the wild and heavily wooded valleys of the Hinku and Hongu Drangkas and is not truly a part of the Khumbu Himal. The small city of Lukla is the starting point of Mera Peak trek. It takes 8 days to reach Mera Peak Base Camp from Lukla. The trail goes through the pristine Rhododendron, oak, silver fir, birch and Jennifer’s forest. On the way, you can see Mera Peak Glacier and a beautiful alpine lake. Besides this, Mera Peak is also famous for the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
The summit of the Mera peak is the best viewpoint for the highest mountains. You will view Mt. Everest (8848m) and Mt. Lhotse (8501 m) to the north, Mt. Choyu (8201 m), Mt. Manaslu (8163 m), and Mt. Amadamlam (6818 m) to the west, Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 m), Mt. Makalu (8463 m) to the east.
Far and away, the most rewarding aspect of a trip to Mera Peak is a chance to venture into little-visited and as yet unspoiled region of Nepal where the hillsides are still densely forested.
