2 Day Cusco to Machu Picchu Tour Itinerary

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Day 1 – Cusco, Ollantaytambo, to Aguas Calientes

Our tour starts early as we pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 AM. We will enjoy the amazing beauty of the Adean landscape during our 2-hour drive to Ollantaytambo station where we will board our train to Aguas Calientes, we will check into our accommodations (Santuario Hotel) when we arrive. You will have free time to enjoy lunch (not included) and the opportunity to explore the charming town at your leisure. You can visit local markets, stroll through the streets, or unwind in the nearby hot springs. To ensure you’re well-rested for the following day’s adventure, we recommend turning in early.

What to do in Aguas Calientes?

If you love history, then the Machu Picchu Museum is a great place to visit. The museum highlights pre-Inca times with a collection of Inca artifacts. The Orchid Gardens is another location to visit which is about a 30-minute walk from Aguas Calientes. The site has a rustic feel filled with a variety of beautiful orchids on display. If you have a swim suite you can enjoy the rest of the day relaxing in the thermal waters of the Hot Springs in Aguas Calientes.

Day 2 – Machu Picchu Tour – Back to Cusco

On the second day of our 2-Day Machu Picchu Tour, we will rise early and have breakfast at the hotel. We will then board a bus for a 25-minute ride to the entrance of Machu Picchu. The 5-mile serpentine road offers breathtaking views of the Urubamba River below. Upon arrival, our expert ATAI tour guide will lead you on a two-hour exploration of the ancient Inca citadel. Our guide will share some interesting stories about the history and cultural importance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Following the guided trip to Machu Picchu, you will have some free time to explore the citadel at your own pace. You can capture memorable photos or embark on the adventure of climbing the optional Huayna Picchu Hike (not included). After the tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes for a late lunch (not included). After lunch, we will board the train back to Ollantaytambo. The journey offers more opportunities to admire the surrounding landscapes. From Ollantaytambo, we will drive you back to your hotel in Cusco, completing our unforgettable 2-Day Machu Picchu Tour. The drive to Cusco takes approximately 1-1/2 hours. You can expect to arrive back at your hotel around 7 pm-8pm.
