Going to Mt. Everest Base Camp (EBC) has been on my list for some time and I wasn’t sure where to start. I was fortunate to meet Keith Black, CEO of A.T. Adventures International (A.T.A.) and Ganesh Sharma at a local travel show here in the Los Angeles area.
Learning of Keith’s experience and knowing Ganesh would be in country during my trek was important to me. I can’t say enough about these two gentlemen including our guide Phula Sherpa.
As it turned out Keith trekked with us this past April 2019 which made it more assuring. It’s good to have the boss with you. His expertise and passion for the adventures of outdoor life was a deciding factor in using his company. A.T.A. made the whole experience so easy, from the many calls and texts I place which were answered by Keith in a timely and professional manner, to the great value they offer!!
From the minute you leave the airport in Kathmandu you are in the hands of A.T.A. Ganesh made sure my luggage and transfer to a local 4-star hotel went with ease. My price included an awesome 6-hour city tour as well as two night stays before and after the trek. The second night stays at both ends are not guaranteed. They are used for delayed flights arriving in Kathmandu and bad weather days flying out of Lukla. That is great planning on the part of A.T.A. and you will thoroughly enjoy the hotel at the end for rest and relaxation.
I can’t say enough about our guide Phula Sherpa and porter Phuree who were fantastic. On the trail Phula continually checked on our wellbeing, assisted with equipment, gave us appropriate breaks and placed lunch orders. Every evening his assistance greatly appreciated and needed. He checked us into our tea house and handed us our room keys. He placed our dinner order, assisted us in paying for wi-fi, showers and charging our devices. Most importantly he gave us the weather and agenda for the next day. He made everything once again run smooth.
Like any adventure there is likely to be mis-steps and without really knowing we had a few. Ganesh who is in country not only assisted with our issues and last-minute requested changes, he made contact with my wife when he realized I lost contact with her. With limited experience you can’t do this trip without a guide, porter and in country rep. They are so equally important! The entire team handled issues seamlessly.
I would be remiss in not mentioning Jon Mohr, Mr. Technology and great team member who guides on the Appalachian Trail. He encouraged me when I needed it, pushed when he had to and brought his great youthful perspective on life. Thank you Jon!!
A special thanks to Ganesh Sharma, Jon Mohr, Phula Sherpa, Phuree-porter and a double special thanks to Keith Black for the adventure of my life. God willing with more to come.
Obviously, I recommend and will use A.T. Adventures International on future adventures.
